“Wartime Soldier, Conflicted Mom”

In Uncategorized on October 20, 2009 at 1:14 am

This article explores the role of modern, working women with intense commitments: to her children and to the war.

As with any family that struggles for security, children obviously know what’s going on to some degree. Whether their parent deploys to active duty or works two or three jobs, they are aware of the struggle. This can obviously take its toll, but I think the article points up the efforts made to create a more supportive network for service families.

There is also a personal line that needs to be drawn. I would not leave my child six months after giving birth. But for some, this is a difficult choice they make in order to maintain their career and benefits.
Ultimately, each scenario is different and requires personal evaluation to weigh the pros and cons, but overall, it’s clear that the interests of the children should come first.
